ABOUT OUR PRE-SCHOOL

We strive to provide excellence in pre-school education for children 3 years to Grade R, in a happy, secure, and stimulating environment.

Our Grade R program is CAPS (Curriculum Assessment Policy Statement) integrated for our Grade R learners, while the NCF (National Curriculum Framework) is followed for our younger groups.

History of our pre-school

A brief look at our school's history... Written by the current Principal, Sarah Reynolds.

Clivia Pre-Primary School had its humble and happy beginnings in a garage in Prestbury before the current school was built and opened in 1979. The parents at the time all advocated for a real school to be built and after three years of fundraising in order to match what the Education Department would pay, Pixie Roberts, the first Principal was able to fulfil her dream of building the perfect school for a Pre-Primary School. Our school library is proudly called the Pixie Roberts Library in honour of her.

Over the years, Clivia has been fortunate to have had dedicated Principals, Connie Howard and Judy Scholtz, with vision to ensure that Clivia continued to grow thus moving from a three classroom school to a five classroom school which allowed for a registered intake of one hundred children.

Taking over from Judy Scholtz in 2012 was an honour and with the support of Staff, the Governing Bodies and Parents, Clivia continued to thrive as we embraced the changes that are inevitable when working with the education of little people.

2020 was a year that shocked us all, but to say it made us stronger is an understatement as we drew together and implemented ways to still make learning fun at home for our little people. The parents were absolutely amazing and once ECDs were given permission to open, only after the strictest of protocols were put in place, the children began to return with great excitement and such resilience as they happily accepted the wearing of masks, a closed plan school and being taught in a surreal environment of ‘no physical contact’.

Fast forward to 2023 and Clivia continues to be a school, built on firm foundations that believes in keeping the child’s developmental needs at the centre of all decision making. This is only ever achievable when a school’s parents, Governing Body members and Staff can share a common vision and work together. This is what epitomises the ethos of Clivia Pre-Primary School and we look forward to welcoming you to our Clivia family.

“While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about."
